This picture was taken on the way to the Bahamas:

A US$15 taxi took us from Nassau airport to Hotel, about 8 kilometers away, where we arrived at about midnight.

Weather: Warm and humid 20-25ºC (Wellington), Warm but dry 20-25ºC (Nassau)

Wednesday 4 April 2001: We slept in, suffering from jet lag, until after noon. We arranged a more convenient hotel room (with kitchenette), did some shopping and had lunch at the hotel restaurant. Martijn had a BLT sandwich and Ingrid a fruit salad. Then we met with our Dutch friends Patrick & Joyce (due to be wed) and Chris (Patrick's younger brother) and his girlfriend Nada. They would all stay a couple of days at Casuarinas as well. Our friends had a rental car with which we drove to Nassau to find a nice restaurant to go out to dinner. We ended up in the Conch Fritters Bar & Grill restaurant. Both Ingrid and Martijn had the Grilled Chicken Breast with Chocolate Suicide for dessert.

Weather: Sunny 25-30ºC

Thursday 5 April 2001: This was the first day of a series of relaxing holi-days with swimming, sunbathing, eating and sleeping. The seven of us had breakfast together. Martijn had scrambled eggs on toast and Ingrid had pancakes with maple syrup. We went to the beach, had a swim and then had lunch. Martijn had cracked conch with fries and Ingrid had a chicken salad.

 "Cable Beach"

Again today we all went to Nassau to have dinner. This time it was a Chinese restaurant - Double Dragon. We ordered a big mixed dish. It was good and we all had a great time.

Weather: Sunny 25-30ºC

Friday 6 April 2001: For breakfast Martijn had the pancakes and Ingrid toast and jam. Bus line 10 then took us to the zoo where a lot of exotic animals were. Here are some photo's:

Back at the hotel we had lunch again. Martijn had grouper (fish) with fries; Ingrid had cracked conch with fries. Martijn and Patrick then played ball in the hotel swimming pool and after that it was again time to organize something for dinner. We all walked about 1.5 kilometers to Capriccio, a nice Italian restaurant just across the road from the Bahamian Sandals resort where Patrick and Joyce were going to be married. Martijn and Ingrid both had the Pollo Nerrone.

Weather: Mostly sunny about 30ºC

Saturday 7 April 2001: On this day Patrick and Joyce left to the Sandals resort to prepare for their wedding the next week. But first we all had breakfast together. Martijn and Ingrid both had scrambled eggs with toast. After saying goodbye to Patrick and Joyce we spent more time on the beach and then of course had to have lunch again. Martijn had BBQ chicken and Ingrid had the chef's salad. The rest of the afternoon we spent at the swimming pool and we had a hilariously expensive dinner with Chris and Nada at Dickie Mo's. We also all had a piece of the "Mahi-Mahi" dish (dolphin) which was kind of special. Martijn had Ceasar salad, chicken & shrimp combo and chocolate cake. Ingrid had smoked salmon, yellow fin tuna and also chocolate cake.

Weather: Sunny about 30ºC

Sunday 8 April 2001: For breakfast Martijn had an omelette with toast and Ingrid pancakes. We went to the beach where Cody payed in the sand for the very first time. We then had lunch (both BBQ chicken), swam in the swimming pool and went to Capriccio for dinner with Chris and Nada. Martijn had veal parmesan and apple/caramel pie and Ingrid had pollo marsala and tiramisu. A great holi-day!

Weather: Mostly sunny about 30ºC

Monday 9 April 2001: For breakfast Martijn had pancakes and Ingrid French toast, both with maple syrup. Chris and Nada were also going to the Sandals resort to join the bride and groom in their preparations for their big wedding day the next day. For lunch Martijn had cracked conch with fries and Ingrid had fruit salad. In the afternoon we took the bus downtown to go shopping and we came back towards dinner time. We had our last Bahamian dinner at Capriccio again:

Martijn had pollo parmesan

Ingrid had linguine bolognese

Weather: Mostly sunny about 30ºC

Tuesday 10 April 2001: This is Patrick and Joyce's wedding day. For breakfast Martijn had a festive omelette and Ingrid French toast with festive maple syrup. We did some shopping at the supermarket nearby and then took the bus to Sandals where the wedding was going to take place. While Joyce was getting ready in the hotel suite, Patrick showed us around the resort. The first official part of the day was the wedding ceremony.

This was done on a lovely decorated pier:

Then the legal part - signing the wedding book, where a group photo was taken:

In the garden of the resort, the wedding cake was presented with (lots of) champagne:

Then we took Cody to the baby sitter at our hotel, but before that the newly weds hugged him goodbye:

And then... DINNER and PARTY TIME!

The appetizer was French onion soup. The second course was a baby shrimp salad. The main course was lamb and game duet, and for dessert we had a chocolate rum bombe... well some had two... This was all accompanied with the necessary champagne, while we were all dancing the night away...

Then came an end to this glorious day and we reflected on it during our half-hour walk back to our hotel.

Weather: Sunny about 30ºC

Wednesday 11 April 2001: It's time to leave our friends and the Bahamas. A limousine-taxi took us to the airport and we were off...
