Eurovision Song Contest 2010
On Tuesday 25th, Thursday 27th and Saturday 29th May 2010 the
55th Eurovision Song Contest was held at the Telenor Arena in Oslo (Norway). The
shows were hosted by Erik Solbakken, Haddy N'jie and Nadia Hasnaoui.
The format of the contest is 2 semi-finals and then
the grand final. From the total of 39 participating nations (Andorra,
Czech Republic, Hungary and Montenegro withdrew), 5 have directly
qualified for the grand final. They are the 4 main European Broadcasting Union
members United Kingdom, Germany, France and Spain, along with the 2009
winner and host nation Norway. There will be 20 more grand finalists; 10 from
each semi-final, which brings the total of grand finalists
to 25.
The 5 direct grand final qualifiers will also vote in
the semifinals; France, Germany and Spain
in semi-final 1; Norway and United Kingdom
in semi-final 2. This was decided by draw on 7 February 2010.
The draw to determine the split of the 34 semi-finalists also took place on
7 February 2010, and the running order
on 23 March 2010.
Citizens of each participating country vote
by telephone and SMS. Each voting nation's 10 favourites are awarded 1 to 8, 10
and 12 points based on the number of votes.
Professional juries in all
respective countries vote as well, awarding the same points structure to the 10
best considered entries.
The televoting results and the jury results are
then merged per country on a 50/50 basis. The 10 qualified nations per
semi-final will be presented in random order at the end of both
broadcasts.
