Wellington (Michael Fowler Centre)

Featuring Australian born Jon English, the story revolves around Pseudolus, a slave who will do almost anything to gain his freedom. When Pseudolus is left in charge of his owner's young son who has fallen madly in love with a beautiful courtesan, the fun begins. The young boy promises Pseudolus his freedom if he can arrange a marriage before his father returns. Pseudolus, of course, agrees. But not even the conniving slave can foresee the tangled web that he is about to weave.

 2/10/1999

Alanis Morissette
( as supporting act)

Wellington (Events Centre)

New Zealand most popular band of this time performed very well. They played all their songs from their hit album "Mix".
The greater part of Canadian born Alanis Morissette's concert contained songs from her album "Supposed former infatuation junkie". The music was great and she was very lively.

30/10/1999

Randy Crawford

Wellington (St James Theatre)

In spite of the fact that Randy has grown a bit older, she still has the same beautiful voice that she had more than 20 years ago.

11/2/2000

Liz Mitchell (Boney M)

Wellington (Michael Fowler Centre)

With music on tape - adapted to the 90s - Jamaican born Liz Mitchell tried to relive Boney M's top years, but she failed. The bass of the beat was too overwhelming from the speakers. The typical Boney M sound just wasn't there. A young dancer was supposed to replace Bobby Farrell but he should have been dancing in a strip club.

4/8/2000

Air Supply

Wellington (Michael Fowler Centre)

Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell put together some great musicians for their tour band.

7/9/2000

Babba
("tribute to Abba")

Wellington (St James Theatre)

This was an abbasalutely fabbalulous show from the Australian Abba revival band. They performed almost all Abba songs to studio perfection.

10/9/2000

Hot Chocolate

Wellington (Michael Fowler Centre)

Pure funky 70s! Great audience interaction, dancing in the aisles, nostalgia retro music and good quality songs.

17/10/2000

Wendy Roberts
("tribute to Karen Carpenter")

Wellington (Michael Fowler Centre)

Wendy Roberts is perhaps best known for her lead vocals on Mike Oldfields "Platinum" album and subsequent world tour. A notable highlight in the history of a Tribute to the Carpenters was the appearance during ITV's Entertainment UK of Richard Carpenter himself announcing "What I have heard is very good, very accurate and I find it flattering!" The show, which incorporates a seven piece orchestra has prompted glowing reviews. Wendy's vocal resemblance to Karen Carpenter has been described as "astonishing", "uncanny", "moving", and even "eerie".

3/3/2001

Vengaboys

Wellington (Town Hall)

The Dutch band (Kim, Denise, Roy and Yorick) put on a short, but great dance show. It really was a dance explosion of energetic swinging around the stage. The repertoire is not really that extensive, so a couple of songs were performed twice.

30/6/2001

David Strassman

Wellington (Town Hall)

New Zealand's favourite ventriloquist David Strassman tries to control 6 dummies, 2 of which are the main characters that are contrasting. Chuck Wood is an obnoxious, witty, charming and sarcastic 13 year-old who is the star of the show. Ted E Bear is a cute and cuddly bear who easily gains sympathy and affection.

20/9/2001

Bjorn Again
("tribute to Abba")

Wellington (Town Hall)

This was again (just like Babba in 2000) an abbasalutely fabbalulous show from the English Abba revival band. Apart from all the Abba hits, there also was one great interlude from "Björn" and "Benny", playing the Bon Jovi song "Livin' on a prayer!

16/11/2001

Robbie Williams
(Zed as supporting act)

Wellington (Westpac Stadium)

Zed is another great New Zealand rock band of this time. "Renegade fighter" is probably currently the most popular song.
We were in the so-called Gold Circle, about 25 metres from Robbie. He had more than 10 musicians (including background vocals) who played very well and he was very lively.

22/11/2004

Dido

Wellington (Events Centre)

A great show with a wide variety of muscial instruments. All of Dido's hits were performed and more.

5/3/2005

Neil Diamond

Wellington (Westpac Stadium)

Neil Diamond took the sold-out stadium crowd through a two-hour-plus greatest-hits set. He is the consummate showman. The first hip-shaking moment of the night came with Desiree and, try as hard as they could, the over-30s audience couldn't help but bust out of their seats to enjoy the moment. There was no stopping the hits, from a rocky version of Beautiful Noise that showcased a slick brass section, to an even rockier Cherry, Cherry, which left Diamond wondering out loud why only some of the crowd were standing and dancing. Next came Love On The Rocks and the patriotic America – complete with red, white and blue light show. And his tongue-in-cheek version of Red, Red Wine, starting like a mournful country ballad awash in slide guitar before switching to UB40-like reggae, complete with Diamond rapping his thanks to UB40 for reviving the song. This diamond had not lost any of its sparkle.

15/5/2006

Simple Minds

Wellington (Michael Fowler Centre)

A great mix of old and new hits.

23/6/2006

10CC

Wellington (Town Hall)

Graham Gouldman has been the only original band member not to have a break with 10CC. With a new band line-up he brought the big 70s and 80s hits alive again.
