INVERARAY JAIL

The new jail, built in 1816 invites you to step back in time and experience what life would have been like in a 19th century prison. Furnished cells with authentic sounds and smells all help to bring the jail back to life and offer visitors a chance to sample "life behind bars".

We stepped back a century and sat on the public benches of this beautifully restored historic courtroom. We could listen to excerpts from dramatic trials held in this very room.

Ingrid experienced life behind bars in this `Model Prison' of its day. She tried out an actual cell.
